We take our time structuring the lesson to make sure you learn and develop the skills that are necessary for you individually to become an independent surfer and or skater. For surfing, we first focus on beach training that covers efficient paddling techniques, configuring a method to pop up that is suited to your abilities, the classic surfing stance, and general water safety. We then spend the remainder of the lesson guiding you into waves and providing constant feedback on everyone's performance! There might even be a little professional demonstartion if you ask nicely! For skateboarding, we dive into the basics of finding your balance, style, and comfort level. From there we cruise at an easy pace that let's students experiment and develop their own way of skating. Depending on the students skill level, we focus in on what they need in order to grow and become a better skater.
Hi, my name is Joey Jennings and I live in Palos Verdes. I’ve been surfing and skating up and down the California coast for the past seventeen years, and I’m inspired to share these two passions with anyone who wants to learn. Surf With Joey is a team of instructors, and fellow athletes among the most passionate surfers and skaters in SoCal who love to guide others into these sports as as much as I do.
Surfing is a really cool sport, but there’s more to it, the way it feels to sit quietly, looking out to sea, studying the horizon for the next wave, and how it feels to catch and ride a wave. Its just an amazing feeling that’s hard to describe. People describe it as therapeutic, or like a spiritual connection with the ocean. I think its different for everybody, and something you just have to try to feel for yourself.
Surfing and skateboarding go hand in hand with each other. They both require similar muscle groups and form to be able to skate and surf efficiently. I usually recommend skateboarding when the surf is bad and combining both sports together to get the most out of your development. There are so many styles of skateboarding that you can learn. Learn how to long board, use a trick skateboard, or a surfing style surfboard known as the carver.
Anyone can learn how to surf and skate, you just need the right coaching and motivation. That’s what we're here for, so give us a call, let’s go!
